What should I watch out for when sharing cookware with meat dishes, since I don't have dedicated vegetarian pots?

I live with family and we share all the kitchen cookware. If a pan was just used to cook meat and then I use it for a vegetable stir-fry right after, is that actually a problem?

If you're vegetarian for health or environmental reasons (not religious rules), sharing cookware is totally fine as long as it's properly washed — hot water and dish soap will take care of any residue, and there's no real issue once it's clean. If you're worried about flavor carryover, you can "season" the pan first by stir-frying something unimportant before cooking your actual vegetarian dish. But if you're vegetarian for religious reasons — say, you need to avoid any contact with meat at all — then it really is worth getting a pot and spatula set aside just for yourself. A lot of families color-code this (like a green handle reserved for veg-only use) so family members don't accidentally mix them up. Honestly it comes down to how strict your reasons are — there's no one-size-fits-all answer here.
