Jingdu Caotang
VeganJingdu Caotang is a phoenix-from-the-ashes reinvention by the original core team behind Da Shu Wu Jie — its newest concept space, informally "Da Shu Wu Jie 3.0" — set on the sixth floor of a heritage building on Nanjing Road East. Inside, geometric origami-style planter walls and reclaimed wood furniture frame gladiolus, string-of-pearls, staghorn fern and bird's-nest fern, bringing the seasons into the middle of the city. Two rooftop gardens round out the space: a north terrace growing 20-plus herbs — Cuban oregano, rosemary, lavender, thyme, lemon mint, lemongrass, chamomile and more — that doubles as an organic herbal-tea picking-and-tasting space, and a south terrace shaded by blueberry, grape, hawthorn and yew trees that trace the seasons from blossom to fruit, with skyline views at dusk. Jingdu Caotang hopes to use taste that reaches the essence of flavor to awaken a purer palate — moving vegetarian cooking beyond restriction into a dialogue between food and nature.
