❓How do I combine vegetarian proteins to make them 'complete'?

'Protein combining' (pairing grains and legumes to complete the essential amino acids) is an old concept that tends to get over-emphasized. The more mainstream view in nutrition these days is: as long as you eat a reasonably varied diet over the course of a day, you don't need to precisely pair foods within the same meal, or even the same day — your body pieces together the amino acids absorbed across different meals on its own. Classic combos like soy milk with whole wheat mantou, or brown rice with tofu, are certainly still great, and eating that way day-to-day is more than enough — no need to stress over any one meal 'not being paired.' Also, soybeans themselves (yellow soybeans, black soybeans, and products made from them) already have an amino acid profile fairly close to a complete protein, unlike lentils or peas which are more noticeably short on a particular amino acid — so eating soy products already saves you a lot of the trouble.
